Most of us end up with moles that are acquired later in life. They are usually less than 1/4 inch in size. The moles that form in childhood and early adult life are now thought to be due over-exposure to sun. Most people think of a mole as being a dark brown spot - raised from the skin, but moles have a much wider range of appearances. Sometimes a mole can be raised from the skin, or they may actually contain dark brissly hairs. Doctor's say that having hairs in your mole doesn't make it dangerous or cancerous, so you can relax. Moles can appear anywhere on your skin, at any time. Usually people in their 40's begin to notice small moles appearing. They usually are dark or light brown in color and can be various sizes and shapes. Melanin cells causes the mole to have brown color - not cancer.
Facial moles are believed to be determined before a person is even born.
